Coach Rooney - Introduction

Posted Thursday, October 01, 2015 by Tom Rooney
My name is Tom Rooney and I'm really excited to be the new Head Coach of the Boys Lacrosse Program at Half Hollow Hills West High School.  I was the head coach at Port Washington HS for the past 4 years where we saw great success.  Port finished last year 13-4 and played in the County Semi-Finals at Hofstra University.  In the 4 years at Port we had 3 County Semi-Finals appearances and 1 County Finals appearance.  Previously, Port had not made a Semi-Final appearance in 15 years and a Finals appearance in 20 years.  Turning around that program was a great accomplishment.  Before heading to Port Washington I was a Varsity assistant at Syosset High School where we also had great success.  We won back to back County Championships in 2007 and 2008 and the Long Island Championship in 2008.  That year we also played in the State Championship game.  Earlier coaching stops included Hewlett HS as a Varsity assistant and St. Joseph Regional HS (NJ).

I hope that all players and parents will embrace my vision for the program and be willing to put in the time to be a champion.  The success I have seen in my previous stops were a collective effort of great kids who worked hard and wonderful parents who supported their  boys and the coaching staffs.
I'm really excited to have Anthony Cascio as one of my Varsity assistants.  Anthony has been part of the Hills West lacrosse program for a number of years and has a passion to see it succeed.  In addition, Connor Hagans a Hills West graduate, is taking over as the JV Head Coach.  Other coaches will be added and I'm sure they will have the same commitment to excellence that Coach Cascio and Coach Hagans have.
Looking forward to a great year for the Hills West Lacrosse Program.
GO COLTS!
